Stay as Co-Resident
Not as a Guest,
but as a Person.
At Årc, we don't call the people who stay here "guests." We call them Co-Residents. Likewise, the people who welcome you are not hotel staff. We are Co-Owners and neighbors who live as part of this community. We're not interested in a relationship built on paying for service. Instead, we'd rather meet one another simply as people—sharing this commons together.
This way of being comes naturally on Yakushima, and we hope you'll carry a little of that feeling back into your own community.
The money you spend during your stay helps sustain Årc, supports artists, and enables us to continue experimenting with a Commons Economy.
But contributing to a commons isn't only about money. It can be sharing a meal or a car with someone. Helping in the garden for a while. Sharing your knowledge or experience. Leaving shared spaces and tools ready for the next person. Or returning home feeling more like yourself, and changing something—however small—in your everyday life.
These small, natural acts of participation are what transform Årc from a place to be used into a commons that people build and sustain together.

Your Stay Becomes
Part of the Commons.
There are many ways to contribute to a commons.
Supporting it through your stay
Sharing conversations with people
you meet
Sharing a meal
Sharing a car
Caring for shared spaces and tools
Being mindful of the natural environment
Helping in the garden or vegetable patch
Sharing your skills and knowledge
Or simply contributing in your own way
Shared Space & Things
Spaces That Connect Us—
Through Nature and One Another.
Årc was designed to gently dissolve the boundary between indoors and outdoors, creating spaces where people naturally gather, connect, and spend time together.
To support everyday life on Yakushima, we've also equipped the shared spaces with the tools and essentials needed for daily living—including a fully equipped kitchen.
Café & Bar
Good Coffee,
Beer, & Whisky
We serve hand-poured light-roast single-origin coffee, Årc's original house blend, whisky aged on Yakushima, and craft beer from small breweries in Kagoshima.
Whether you're working, reading, or sharing a conversation, we hope these small pleasures make your time here a little richer.
Every room is private. Designed with comfort and simplicity in mind, each room features a TEMPUR® bed so you can fully unwind after a day spent exploring, working, or simply being.
The rooms are intentionally minimal—not because something is missing, but because we hope you'll spend more of your time in nature or in the shared spaces, rather than behind a closed door.

Where we are
Location & Access
Årc is located at the southern tip of Yakushima—an area known for its peaceful atmosphere, warm climate, and slower pace of life. Many people choose to settle here, drawn by the island's natural beauty and way of living. Within walking distance, you'll find cafés, local restaurants, and a small farmers' market. Just a five-minute drive away are Onoaida Onsen, Hirauchi Kaichu Onsen, and a supermarket for your daily needs.
Årc is about 35 minutes by car from Yakushima Airport, or around one hour by bus, followed by a 6-minute walk from the nearest bus stop, Koidomari. You can also reach Årc by bus from both Miyanoura Port and Anbo Port.

CO-RESIDENTS PORTAL
Tools to Support Your Stay
Årc doesn't offer hotel-style service. Instead, we've created the Co-Residents Portal to help you manage your stay and make the most of your time on Yakushima.
Developed and continuously improved based on feedback from Co-Residents, the portal brings together practical tools, local information, and everything you'll need before and during your stay.
You'll receive an access link after your reservation is confirmed.
We encourage you to make the most of it.
