わたしたちは、屋久島を非日常として体験して帰ってもらうのではなく、わたしたちの日常を共有し、都市での暮らしと異なる「日常」として過ごしてほしいと思っています。
それは、島を訪れるひとに、自然体の自分を都市の日常に持ち帰ってほしいからです。
わたしたちの接し方も、「お客さま」という感じではなく、ただ「あなたというひと」として関わっていきたいと思っています。
ホスピタリティのあるサービスは提供できませんが、対話やつながりが生まれる場をつくっていきたいと思っています。
ここは宿でなく、コモンズ。
ここは宿のように、観光者のひとも泊まってもらえる場所です。ですが、わたしたちが行なっていこうとしているのは、「宿泊業」ではなく、「コモンズをつくる」という営みです。
コモンズには「共有の財産」という意味があります。わたしたちはこの場所を特定の誰かだけが所有・独占するのではなく、誰もに開かれ、誰もが「自分の場所」と思いながらも、他の存在と共有される場所にすること。「境界線をなくしていく」ことを意図し、この場所を育てていこうとしています。
美しい自然の中にあるとき、わたしたちは何にも囚われのない、自然体の自分になる。
何かの役割を負っていたり、急いでいたり、自分を大きく見せたり、小さくしたり。都市のモードを少し置いて、ただありのままになる。その自分に湧きあがってくるものを、ただそのまま表現する。
それは一人ひとりが生み出すアートになる。都市に生きるひとが、自然体の表現者となっていく。そう生きていくひとのための場をつくりたい。そんな想いから、この場所がつくられはじめました。

建築は、個として過ごせる環境と、他者との集いが自然に生まれ ることを意図して設計しています。
設計者は、建築家の藤木俊大氏。つながりや社会に開かれたものとして建築をとらえていく藤木さんの思想は、Årcのフィロソフィーとも重なっています。

The exterior walls are made of traditional Japanese burnt cedar. In order to create a commons, the co-owners and people living on the island burned each piece of cedar one by one.
This space can be used as a shared kitchen, cafe and bar, and workshop space. It will be a place where guests and island residents can gather and make connections.
The building has 12 bedrooms with 14 beds, as well as a shared space for guests and those using the cafe and bar.
Deep in Årc there is a forest and a river where you can hear the sounds of birds and the murmuring of a stream.
Fireflies also live in the river.

Many of the bedrooms are individual, allowing you to enjoy some introspection in your own private space.
We also provide WiFi and remote work booths so you can bring your everyday city work with you.

島のちょうど真南。静かで、暖かく、リ トリート滞在に適した場所です。移住される方が多い地域でもあります。近くにはカフェや居酒屋、野菜の直売所、車で5分程のところに尾之間温泉や平内海中温泉、スーパーなどもあります。
アクセスは屋久島空港より車で約35分、バスで約1時間（最寄バス停「恋泊」から徒歩約6分）。安房港より車で約25分です。
